Before bringing Zozo home from the hospital, I made sure to have these five essential items ready. You don’t need a ton of baby gear—just the must-haves to keep your little one safe, comfortable, and happy. Here’s what worked for me!
1. Daipers and Wipes
Newborns go through 8-12 diapers daily, so stock up on:
- Newborn & Size 1 Diapers – Start with a small pack of each.
- Unscented Baby Wipes – Gentle on sensitive skin.
- Diaper Rash Cream – Prevents and soothes irritation.

2. Newborn Clothes & Swaddles
Babies outgrow clothes fast! Stick to the basics:
- Onesies (5-7) – Soft, breathable, and easy to change.
- Sleepers (5-7) – Preferably zip-up for nighttime changes.
- Swaddle Blankets (2-3) – Helps babies sleep better.
3. Feeding Essentials
Even if breastfeeding, you’ll need a few basics:
- Bottles (3-4) – Even if nursing, they’re handy for pumped milk.
- Formula (If Not Breastfeeding) – Pick a gentle, newborn-friendly option.
- Burp Cloths (4-5) – Essential for spit-ups.
4. Baby Bath & Skincare
Keep it simple with these newborn-friendly items:
- Tear-Free Baby Wash – All-in-one shampoo & body wash.
- Baby Lotion – Keeps delicate skin moisturized.
- Soft Washcloths (2-3) – Gentle for baby’s skin.

5. Car Seat (Non-Negotiable!)
A rear-facing infant car seat is required to leave the hospital. Install it ahead of time and make sure it’s properly secured.
That’s It—The Essentials!
This list covers the absolute must-haves—no unnecessary extras. Once your baby arrives, you’ll learn what works best for your family.
